How do you decide what to wear every day? Do you have a particular style that makes you feel happy and confident when you walk out the door?

If not…it’s time to create…
Your signature style.

This is Step 3 in my Style Your Way To Success Program that I teach four times a year virtually. I’ve got a fantastic group of women going through the program right now, and they’ve just finished Step 1 – Express Your Color Energy (they’re receiving color card packages now!), and they’re starting Step 2 – Discover Clothes that Flatter Your Body Shape this week.

After you understand your best colors and shapes that flatter your figure, it’s time to pull it all together with Step 3 – Create Your Signature Style. This is the process of deciding how you want to tell people who you are without saying a word!

Let’s say you’ve been working in a conservative office environment for 25 years and now that you’re retired you get to wear clothes that aren’t so buttoned up and tailored, but you don’t know where to start. What’s your personal style for your new, more casual, perhaps more creative and active lifestyle?

Ask yourself these questions:

  1. How would you describe your current fashion style? Does it represent you?
  2. Who is your style icon?
  3. What was your best fashion moment?
  4. What are your favorite pieces, and how would you describe them?
  5. Do you have a signature piece you wear all the time? What is it?
  6. What would you like to say about yourself with your clothes?
  7. If you had unlimited store credit, what would you buy?
  8. What would you like to change about your current style?
  9. What are two words that describe the signature style you aspire to?

The key is to tap into your personality, personal preferences, and individual form of expression. There are no STYLE RULES. You get to create a look that feels and looks like you — the woman you are today — and I would say it’s your obligation to do this for yourself. If you don’t dress the way you want to now, then when? Weight, height, body shape, and budget do not have to get in the way of creating your signature style. Don’t wait until you lose another 10 pounds, start working out in the gym, or get your financial situation in order. Focus on how you want to look and make it happen!

Let’s say you answered all the questions above and determined your signature style is Bohemian Chic, a style you haven’t expressed since your college days. But it’s SO YOU. How could you express Boho Chic? Here are some clothing and accessory components you could use to express Bohemian Chic:

  • Striking color combinations – pair complimentary colors
  • Fantastic woven fabrics
  • Flowing layers of fabric wrapped around your body
  • Big chunky jewelry
  • Big scarves, headbands
  • Comfortable, flowing skirts, dresses, and pants
  • Natural makeup and hair
  • Real leather
  • No polyester
  • Fringe purse, fringe jacket, fringe boots

For every signature style, there are a set of clothing and accessory components that, once you compile, make it so easy to get dressed every day in a personal style that lights you up inside and outside, and brings you joy and confidence. You DESERVE to feel this way every single day!

Here are some gorgeous examples of women expressing their Boho Chic:
