Weddington Way NYE Wedding Challenge

Working as a stylist I have helped many brides, bridesmaids, and mothers-of-the-bride dress for that special day. I love discovering wedding fashion design companies that come up with trendy, attractive and affordable styles for this very special occasion. That’s why I was thrilled when Weddington Way contacted me and challenged me to come up with a style board for a NYE wedding. How fun is THAT?

In my experience working with wedding parties, a bridesmaid wants to create a fun, joyous event for the bride. However the bridesmaid also wants to show her personality, be comfortable, and most importantly, feel confident in her bridesmaid attire. I chose Weddington Way’s Veronica Tuxedo Gray dress for this challenge. It creates the perfect canvas for a glammed up look with pink accessories galore! I think NYE calls for pink champagne and all the trimmings! Take a look at other bridesmaids dresses from Weddington Way here.

Why Should You Hire a Style Consultant?

I find there is a natural inertia, or complacency, when it comes to hiring a style consultant. If you ask any woman whether she’s in favor of hiring someone to help her clean and organize her closet to create fabulous outfits that work, she’ll invariably say YES. But when it comes to actually scheduling this service, she’ll find many reasons to avoid it.

Perhaps this stems from an underlying nervousness about confronting poor clothing choices she’s made in the past (who hasn’t made mistakes?), or the fact that some of her favorite clothes don’t fit anymore. She just doesn’t want to go there! What is it about our closet that reminds us of the past and all the experiences we’ve enjoyed or regretted?

A style consultant can help you “heal your closet” by removing the confusing clutter and old reminders. She’ll help you rediscover the hidden treasures in your closet that bring you joy and she’ll make those clothes more present in your life. Cleaning out your closet is like a spiritual reawakening — out with the old, in with the new!

Here’s a compelling reason to hire a style consultant

She will take you by the hand and guide you gently (or maybe she’ll be more like Jillian Michaels shouting at you with tough love) through the process of confronting your cluttered closet, cleaning out what doesn’t work, returning the garments that still fit and work for you, and organizing beautiful, put-together outfits. In the end you’ll discover that almost everything you need is in your closet. You just have to clear out everything that doesn’t work for you anymore! Doesn’t this sound like a metaphor for life?

Another reason to hire a style consultant

She will help you create “Go-To Outfits” for your current lifestyle. For example, she could create complete, accessorized outfits for your:

  • Client meetings
  • Job interviews
  • Date nights
  • Speaking engagements

Yes, this service does cost money, I won’t kid you. Style consultants have to earn a living. But my experience has been that no one has EVER regretted it; on the contrary, what I hear from my clients proves to me that this very personal, very motivational and life-changing experience is worth every dollar and moment you spend.

Fall 2014 Trends & Tips to Update Your Current Wardrobe

Have you seen the September 2014 issue of InStyle magazine? Whoooeee! It’s an inch of pure fashion fun and trendy ideas to spruce up your sexy, fall wardrobe.

You’ll see trends such as thick knit sweaters, sweetheart necklines, menswear, flared jeans, cognac accessories, boxy coats, white pumps after Labor Day, aubergine, tailored culottes, animal prints (yes, still around!), monochromatic colored outfits, chunky knits, furry faux coats, flat oxfords, miniskirts, long skirts (yes, on the page after miniskirts), luxe track pants, nude makeup and nail art. You get the idea…

For those who have been around the block a few times, you’re probably not running out to buy all the latest trends. Your style is more about individual expression, comfort, classicism, exhibiting strength and confidence. So my advice is choose one or two trends that light you up inside and pair them with your existing wardrobe. Here’s some suggestions (Men’s fall trend ideas coming soon!):

Loose-Fitting, Wide Pants

Harem Pants_72dpiI’m talking harem pants, silky loose track pants, boyfriend jeans, and wide-all-over trousers. Boot cut and flared jeans.

Elegantly sloppy.

If you’ve been living in skinny jeans and leggings for years, this is quite a switch. I have a feeling this loose pant style is like a potato chip — you can’t stop with just one!

Winter White

Cotton-2BBlend-2BWinter-2BWhite-2BBiker-2BJacketWhite is hot again for fall and winter.

This cotton-blend biker jacket looks great over a pop of color such as tomato red, mustard or aubergine. A great alternative to neutral gray, black, and brown.

Pair with colorful eyewear, cream wool pants, and animal print pumps!

Mural-2BSequin-2BBomber-2BJacketA dream come true if you dress for comfort first!

Invest in an upscale sweatshirt, silky track pants, or a bomber jacket. You’ll feel like you walked out the door in your pajamas, and you’ll be completely fashion forward.

This is a sporty look that may take you back to your h.s. daze…

Boots and Booties

Free-2BPeople-2BBootieWe’re still wearing our booties from summer to winter, and it looks like there’s no stopping this trend.

Wear booties with skirts and dresses. Here are a few tips to pull off this look:
  • Keep hose and booties a similar color to create a longer leg line
  • If flat booties are hard for you to pull off, wear a heeled bootie for a longer look
  • When wearing mid-calf boots, show a little knee
  • Booties that are low and close to the ankle tend to look more flattering

Signature Scents for Men

I have spicy geraniums in full bloom in my yard, and I tell you, their scent is heavenly. One of my favorite parts of summer is the wafts of fragrance I get to enjoy as I go through my day.

Sandalwood rules as far as I’m concerned, so you might say I’m an earthy woman. Its exotic, sweet, woody fragrance feels like home on my skin. Many ancient cultures in India, Egypt, Greece and Rome incorporated sandalwood into their religious and spiritual traditions. It is considered a symbol of vitality in India. I have adopted sandalwood as my signature scent.

What’s your signature scent?

The Importance of a Signature Scent

I write about the importance of dressing with confidence and finding your signature clothing style. I also believe that finding your signature scent is just as critical because our sense of smell plays a role in the attraction between two people. Your attraction factor is tightly linked to not only your appearance, but to the way you smell. Your signature scent transmits who you are to the person standing close to you.

Scents for Men

Here are some scents for men that you might find appealing:

If you love the smell of a dark roasted cup of joe, you’ll pick out the coffee qualities in scents like Polo Double Black, Armani Attitude, or Givenchy Play Intense. Another scent combining coffee and lavender with low notes of amber and sandalwood is the very affordable Rochas Man.

The spices used in fragrances are aromatic cooking ingredients like cardamom, cinnamon, and cloves. If you are a spicy kind of guy, check out Gucci Pour Homme II, Burberry London, or John Varbatos Vintage. My husband wears Kolnisch Juchten, by Regence Paris, which sends me swooning every time he’s near me. He sometimes splashes on a spicy sandalwood aftershave cologne called Sandalwood from

If you love vanilla, Boss Bottled (a classic) or Givenchy Pi gives a soft hint of vanilla. Tobacco Vanille, by Tom Ford, blends vanilla with the sensual smell of tobacco leaves (not to be confused with choking tobacco smoke) to create a seductive, pipe smoke effect.

Chocolate may be appealing to eat, but can be a tricky note for men to wear. Aim for the rich, sensual cocoa of dark chocolate and offset it with the scent of leather, spice, or wood. Dior Homme Intense achieves this balance.

Lemons and oranges smell fresh and energizing. Acqua Di Parma, the original lemon-based cologne that shot to fame during Hollywood’s Golden Age, remains popular, along with the classic, Christian Dior Eau Sauvage.

How to Apply Cologne

If you are wearing a strong fragrance, only a small drop on your chest is necessary. Sometimes men don’t realize how overpowering a scent can be to the person standing or walking nearby. We have all experienced the gagging results of over-application! Less is more when it comes to cologne application.

And, remember, cologne is supposed to be used after you shower,
Not INSTEAD of a shower!

My recommendation is to step out of your comfort zone and test some of these fragrance categories. Bring your significant other to the fragrance counter and make it a date night!

Men’s Spring Fashion Tips

Gentlemen, here’s a fashion-related question for you:

What is the MOST important thing when it comes to looking polished, professional, and of course, sexy?  It’s FIT, FIT, FIT.  What’s wrong with super-baggy pants and crumpled, over-sized shirts?  Speaking on behalf of the entire female population, we would like to see the outline of your strong, muscular legs, not folds of fabric.  We also like seeing the outline of your broad shoulders and tight torso. You look “put-together” when you wear your clothes; not the other way around.

Just sayin…

I’ve discovered a menswear company, Bonobos, that caters to helping men look more polished and professional, and they help you select the right color, style, and fit. Believe it or not, Spring is coming soon! Bonobos is launching an exciting, vibrant new line of men’s shirts for spring.

The key to looking polished is to wear colors that complement your skin tone, eye and hair color; also, fit is extremely important; and, knowing how to create your signature style by layering with color, pattern, and texture. Here are some fashion tips for men:

Create Different Looks, From Professional to Casual

For a more professional look (first photo below), choose dark colors, wool fabric, and coordinate a solid or conservative patterned tie.  A more casual look (second photo below) is sporty, with lighter colors, cotton or linen fabric, a looser fit, and you can have fun pairing a patterned shirt with a fun, patterned tie; or no tie at all!

Use Layering and Mix-and-Matching Patterns to Create Interesting New Looks

Casual layering creates interest and a look of confidence.  Here are two examples of relaxed styling with a casual shirt and washed, stone-colored chino jacket (first photo below); and pairing a Spring Collection Tattersall shirt (second photo below) with a Fushia striped tie, creating a “put-together” look.

Create the Perfect Fit for a More Polished, Sexy Look

When it comes to fit, Bonobos has spent months fitting hundreds of shirts on dozens of guys to create the perfect set of options:  Standard, Slim, and Tailored Slim.  Here are some tips from Bonobos to help you select the best fit for you:

Standard Fit:  For guys of average build who like a shirt that’s flattering, but not too snug.  It’s a little trimmer than most off-the-rack shirts because we got rid of that unnecessary fabric around the middle.

Slim Fit:  For men with a more slender build, or who simply prefer a snugger fit.  The waist has a distinct taper, and the sleeves are a little narrower as well.

Tailored Slim:  The most form-fitting option Bonobos offers. It’s the closest to a custom tailored shirt as you can get!  The rear darts really bring in the sides for a crisp, definitive taper.

Check out the New Spring Dress Shirts at Bonobos, and start looking more polished and sexy!

Fall 2013 Trends for Women

Fall is already here, and the fashion magazines are two inches thick with “What to Wear Now” advice for women.  They want to get you excited to go out and buy NEW clothes and accessories, and you can do exactly that — even on a tight budget!  Bottom line, ladies, continue to wear what looks good on you, and let the other trends go.  The key is to wear clothes that give you an elongated body, complement your coloring, and bring you comfort and joy.

Not all the new Fall looks and colors (emerald green, charcoal grey, hot pink) are going to look great on you, so you need to be selective when you adopt the new trends.

And if money is a little tight for you right now, choose one new trend and go hunting for it in consignment and thrift stores:

Winter white and, of course, black, is hot this fall.  Remember my viewpoint on black?  It’s not for everyone, but everyone has their own version of black.  Pantone’s fall fashion colors range from Mykonos blue to Acai purple to Vivacious hot pink.  For those who are familiar with the True Color palettes, Mykonos blue looks great on COPPERS and PLATINUMS, but it has a wide appeal so try it on. Acai purple looks great on everyone (depending upon the tone). Vivacious pinks and emerald green are best on a SILVER.  Linden green is a great GOLD color.  Samba red will make a COPPER pop!

Zoe Saldana is showing off a gorgeous leather coat over skinny leather pants. Leather is really in this season, and you’ll find combinations galore — leather sleeves, leather skirts, jackets, in combination with other textures.

Sweater and Skirt Pairing

Look for cable knit, ribbed and fine gauged classic sweaters. Wear them with a feminine skirt be it a slim pencil skirt or a flirty full skirt. What’s makes this look new is a mix of the casualness of a sweater with an ultra feminine skirt. Hot tip: Borrow your boyfreind’s cable knit sweater and wear it with your most feminine skirt!”

Reminiscent of the 1940’s oversized look, the best look is a chunky, cable sweater over a feminine, flowy skirt.  Play with the texture combinations, but keep it monochromatic or muted to give it a chic look.  What makes this look new and fresh is a mix of the casual sweater with an ultra feminine skirt.  Hot tip:  borrow your husband’s cable knit sweater!  Be aware of your body shape, and don’t wear boxy sweaters that add weight.

This is such a put-together, flattering sophisticated look that plays up your waist.  The length, volume, drape and choice of fabric of the ruffle makes a difference. Here are some tips for different body types:

  • If you’re short, choose peplum with less volume, a single color will help lengthen your frame
  • Boyish figure, structured or flared peplums create curves
  • If you have a slight tummy, choose a slightly higher waisted peplum with a streamlined, soft ruffle.
choose peplum with less volume if you’re on the shorter side; the width of the flare should, ideally, be eight inches or less. A single colour outfit will also help lengthen your frame – See more at:

Faux fur

They’re everywhere!  Check out Express, Old Navy, Piperlime, and even your local thrift store (I picked up a short faux fur vest at my local Goodwill in perfect condition!). Oversized, inspired by menswear. These animal-friendly vests can be layered over t-shirts to dresses and keep you snuggly warm!

Mixed and Matched Textures

Finally, tweed is back!  All you COPPERS out there, pay attention and go shopping.  They’re mixing all sorts of textures, from leather, lace, wool, knits, tweeds, and furs.  This gives you a definite statement look, so take it easy!  My advice is to layer your looks tastefully, like this Marissa Webb tweedy short-sleeved tee, edged with leather details, worn over a silk blouse.

Men and Women Fashion Tips — Dress From the Inside Out

The best fashion tip I can give you is something I tell my clients.

“Fashion is not about the clothes you wear.
It’s about expressing who you really are.
So, dress from the inside out.”
When you dress from the inside out, it’s important to ask yourself: what do I want people to know about me without saying a word?

Color Speaks

Use color to highlight your best features and send a message that you know yourself well enough to pick the best colors.  When you wear colors that complement your skin tone you will look:
  • Younger
  • Healthier
  • More Energetic

How many times have you asked someone if she is feeling ill, when in reality, all that is wrong is the color she’s wearing!

Here’s an example of a former client of mine wearing the wrong color

Here she is wearing the right color, looking radiant and confident!

Style Matters

“A man has his clothes made to fit him;
a woman makes herself fit her clothes.” – Edgar Watson Howe
Women, we can learn something from men’s fashion.  Men keep it simple and stylish. What’s simpler than a suit?  Tailoring a suit to make it fit a man’s body is a given.  Make a statement with the perfect fit, fine fabric and a pop of color in the shirt and tie.
Quality, color, fit, and style.

Accessories Polish Your Look

What can you do with a scarf?  Hmmmmm…..let’s see:
  • Keeps your neck warm on a frosty night
  • Adds a punch of color to an otherwise neutral outfit
  • Good for hiding a drip of salad dressing on your blouse
  • Wrap it around your face to create mystery and allure
A good accessory for a man is a tie that marries his suit to his shirt, and provides a pop of color and sophistication.  For a woman, shoes can express her sexy, fun side.  An artfully crafted wide copper bracelet says artsy and interesting.

Confidence Pulls It All Together

“Knowing others is intelligence;
knowing yourself is true wisdom.”  — Lao-Tzu, Tao Te Ching

How do you start gaining confidence?

  • Trust your gut — do you rely on other peoples’ opinions or do you follow your instincts and do what feels right for you?
  • Gain self knowledge — the more you know about your coloring, your body shape (without judgment please!), and more importantly, what matters to you and brings you joy, the more confidence you will gain.
  • Be authentic — no more faking it!  Be exactly who you are twenty-four hours a day and you will decrease your stress and increase your joy.  Celebrate who you are.
  • Dress from the inside out — learn about the colors and styles that create a harmonious look and express who you really are. Then, walk into a room and OWN it!

Men’s Fashion Tips – How to dress like you own the company

If you are Mark Zuckerberg, and worth $10 Billion you can show up for work in a worn t-shirt and jeans.

The Borowitz Report, The New Yorker

But you’re NOT Zuckerberg, so you will have to try a little harder to create an impressive image.

Style can be transformative.   One day you’re a slob, and the next day you’re a dashing head-turner.  This can be accomplished with a colored tailored shirt (your best color) underneath a great jacket, worn with a pair of wool slacks and a pair of leather shoes (your belt and shoes are the same color). Style is a form of communication. You are telling people what you think of yourself. A put together appearance tells the world (whether it’s true, or not) you have confidence, credibility, and self worth. It will give you the edge every time!  When you know you look good, you feel good.

Best Way to Look Like an Executive

Own your own style. Be consistent.  Always wear your colors and well-fitted clothing.  Create an image for yourself and buy clothes and accessories that reflect that image.  Be yourself — you don’t have to conform to the latest trends.  When you dress one step better than everyone else, you will get noticed when you walk into a room.

When you wear the colors that make your skin look radiant and healthy, you’re going to look younger, healthier, and more energetic.

Buy Fewer Pieces, Spend More Money on each Piece

  • Cashmere sweatercrewneck-mens-cashmere-sweaters
  • Leather-soled dress shoe – streamlined sole or chunky sole, your choice! Keep your shoes polished using Kiwi cream polishes. It’s a time-honored ritual for good reason
  •  A polo shirt underneath a suit jacket — wearing a polo shirt in your strongest color underneath a suit is surprisingly, casually elegant
  • Streamlined, pin-striped suit
  • Dark-wash jeans

Shop at a Trendy Menswear Store to Find Out What’s In This Year

You can always buy your clothes at H&M if you are on a tight budget, but if you want to look hip and turn some heads, walk into the more expensive men’s stores and note the styles and colors they’re showing this year. Then, go buy some lookalike, less expensive pieces. However, I’m still a big believer in the classic, timeless styles of good taste.  So, go easy on the trends!  If you look terrible in a fedora hat, don’t wear it.

How Do You Know When You Need a Personal Stylist?

You know you need a stylist if:

    • You are stuck in a rut – you keep buying the same colors (black, right?) and the same styles you have been wearing since 1995.
    • You walk into a store and feel confused and overwhelmed with all the choices
    • You have a new business and you need to get out there and market yourself with photos, website, and in-person speaking engagements
    • You buy clothes that look good on a manikin — a ceramic, non-human form that looks nothing like you!
    • You look into your closet and say, “I have nothing to wear!”
    • You hate shopping
    • You have a special event coming up and you want to look perfectly put together

Almost every time I meet with a new client, I hear the same thing, “…I wear black because it’s easy and it goes with everything,” or “…I don’t like shopping and I don’t think I am particularly good at it, so I only go once a year. And yet it is important in my work to look really put together.”

Do any of these problems ring true for you?

If so, a style consultant can pull you out of your rut, teach you about the colors and styles that bring out your best assets, and even take you shopping to show you how to do it effortlessly and with confidence. The key is SELF KNOWLEDGE. And sometimes it takes a professional consultant to look at you in a new, more artistic and objective point of view.

How do you find a style consultant?

Most of my clients come to me by word of mouth. Ask your friends, co-workers, hair stylist, or your favorite boutique clothing store employees.

If you’re still unsure about a consultant’s credentials, you can ask for the names of some past clients to get a feel for how others rate the experience.

Most importantly, be open to change, but make sure you choose someone you’re comfortable with and can trust. Change is hard and personal change is even tougher. You do it when you’re ready.

And get ready to be your most beautiful (or handsome) self!

Are You Wearing All the Wrong Clothes?

How would you like to walk into a room and get noticed? Would you like your opinions to be heard, or your boss to notice and reward all the good work you’re doing? When you follow simple guidelines and dress to bring out your true radiance, you will discover a power within that you didn’t even know existed, and your life will change for the better. We all know how good it feels to receive a compliment about something you’re wearing. Has it been a while since someone gave you a compliment?  Let’s examine all the things that could be preventing those compliments from streaming in:

How many times have you heard the fashion industry say that you need a little black dress? Do you wear black almost every day? Think black makes you look thinner? Well, it’s all a bunch of fashion industry myths. Black doesn’t make you look thinner – it’s the style and cut of a garment that will make you look thinner. And, for most of us, there’s a better color choice than black. In fact, most people don’t look their best in black! I will show you YOUR BLACK. Let’s hear your stories about wearing black!

Do you ever feel like you have a closet full of clothes but nothing to wear? Here’s the reason – no matter how many pieces of clothing you have hanging in your closet, if the colors don’t mix and match, if they are inappropriate for your lifestyle, if they’re torn or stained, or if they’re too small or too big — then you have nothing to wear! How many times a week do you say “I have nothing to wear” ?

How many mistakes are hanging in your closet — with the tags still on? You knew it was a mistake when you bought it, but you bought it anyway for a variety of reasons – you were in a hurry and had to have something new to wear to an event, or you went shopping alone and the sales person talked you into it. Whatever the reason, you wasted your money because you did not have the knowledge of what colors and styles look best on you. So there it hangs… When you shop with color and style guidelines, you can walk away from anything that falls outside those guidelines. With color and style guidelines you will shop more efficiently, save money by avoiding buying mistakes that hang in your closet, and you’ll enjoy shopping more!

Ever walk into a clothing store and feel completely overwhelmed with all the choices — not sure what looks good on you? How many times have you turned around and walked out of a store without trying ANYTHING on? How would you like to walk into a clothing store, make a beeline for the right clothes, and get out without buying any mistakes or wasting time trying on clothes that just aren’t going to look good! Get in and get out.

Most of us feel we’re at the mercy of the fashion industry. We buy styles and colors that are the latest fad, or because it’s in our price range, or it’s the IN fashion this year, even if it doesn’t look particularly good on us. Instead of buying something that looks good on a manikin wouldn’t it make more sense to know what colors, styles, and accessories bring out your best features, your uniqueness? When you do, everyone will see YOU –not necessarily your clothes. As we get older, our bodies are changing, styles are changing, and I’ll bet many of you are still hanging onto your old clothes that expired years ago! Remember, your closet is NOT a museum!

Have you ever been in a public place and seen a woman that turns heads because she looks perfectly put together? Do you wish you could have that put-together look? When you look at a well-dressed woman, you see her radiance. She lights up. She stands out. That’s because every single thing she put on that morning, every color, every fabric, and accessory brought her RADIANCE out. How can YOU bring out your radiance and beauty? You will understand how to bring out your best features when you understand the secrets of your own PERSONAL BLUEPRINT.

Your personal blueprint consists of the way you look TODAY — your face shape, your skin tone, eye color and hair color, your body structure. It also includes the way you move, the way you speak — and even your personality. It’s the essence of you! These are the components found in every person, and they all work together to make you unique and wonderful! When you dress in a way that supports your personal blueprint, the real you will show up! Next week I’m going to show you some Personal Blueprints. Each of the blueprints represents a unique set of characteristics and is linked to a set of colors and styles that are right for the blueprint. When you know your Personal Blueprint, you will know what COLORS and STYLES look great on you!
See next blog for these Personal Blueprints, and see which one is YOU!

Why I Started True Colors by Linda

Here’s my story: By the time I reached fifty, I had built a successful training executive career in the computer industry. However, after leaving the industry I soon felt lost and invisible.  Feeling confused about what new direction to take, I knew I wanted to reinvent myself and my career, but I had no idea what to do.  Then I discovered my colors and styles and the physical transformation changed how I felt about myself.  It made me feel powerful, beautiful, and put-together.  I was visible again (especially to my husband)!  As a result, I embarked on a new career that leverages my creativity, business savvy, desire to help people, and my love of teaching. I enjoy helping women over fifty reawaken their self-confidence through fashion and style power!  I am the woman I help transform into a confident, powerful individual who makes an impact with her life.

Upon reflection, I remember as a young woman I was attractive and sexy enough, and adept at getting attention. This Wonder Woman-like power enabled me to confidently walk into a room and own it. Somewhere between the ages of 45 and 50 I started feeling my super powers fading – I was becoming invisible – and it was shocking. I was no longer commanding attention when I walked into a room – there were younger, more attractive women to draw peoples’ eyes away from me. My solution was to keep my sense of humor, resign myself to invisibility, and chalk it up to growing older.

Some years later, I attended an art marketing class where one woman, quietly minding her own business in class drew everyone’s eye. Some combination of her outfit, her jewelry, her hairstyle, her aura made her “pop” so she was the focal point of the entire room. I was intrigued. She wasn’t much younger than me so it wasn’t an age thing. When I complimented her on her outfit, she told me about a program she had just attended where she learned about her colors and style, and she said it changed her life. She encouraged me to attend the same program. I did.

Learning to wear my best colors changed my life

I learned that I was wearing the wrong colors and styles for my “energy” which consists of my coloring, body type, and my personality. Instead of enhancing my energy and personality, I was watering it down with clothes that did not highlight my best assets. After learning this, did I immediately change the way I was dressing? Heck no! I fought it for almost a year; after all, I was comfortable in the outfits that filled my closet, but slowly I started buying new clothes that reflected my true colors. Then something amazing began to happen. Friends, family and complete strangers started complimenting me. The most surprising compliment came from a gentleman in Trader Joes grocery store. He approached me and said, “I’m not trying to pick you up, but I had to come over and tell you how fantastic you look.”

There IS something to dressing in the right colors and style. It gave me the courage to make major changes in my wardrobe and hair style, and that’s when life became really interesting!

I felt so much better about myself – I wasn’t invisible anymore. That’s when the light bulb came on for me. If I’m experiencing this dramatic transformation, maybe I can help other women do the same. And that’s how True Colors by Linda was born.

I noticed that once my wardrobe got organized with all the right colors and styles, the following things happened:

    • Getting dressed is stress-free and a joy
    • Everything is mix and match so I have more outfits
    • Shopping is easier and faster because I know exactly what to buy
    • I save time and money because I don’t buy mistakes

The Goal of True Colors by Linda

True Colors by Linda is based upon the fact that you can walk into a room and OWN it when you dress in the right colors and style and reflect who you are inside and out. Anyone can “own a room” at ANY age. Why? Because when you dress in a way that enhances your body and your personality, people will notice you and they’ll want to get to know you. They won’t even know why, they are just drawn to you. You are unique and have many gifts to offer and you, too, can easily learn how to “own the room”.

Many of us walk around invisible because we’re dressing in a way that confuses people. I used to be invisible, but didn’t realize it could be any other way. How about you? Think of your energy like a radio signal – when you dress in a way that is in harmony with your energy, your radio signal is clear and strong. When you dress in the wrong colors and style, the radio signal becomes weak and full of static. If you’re like me, you can tell when people aren’t really noticing you. Their gaze travels quickly past you and settles on someone else.

On the other hand, have you ever experienced this? You put on an outfit that makes you smile, and you feel especially confident. Throughout the day you get compliments. Maybe you’re not exactly sure what it is about the outfit that works, but you know that whenever you wear it, you have a great day! Wouldn’t life be grand if every outfit you wore made you feel great and the positive energy you radiate was reflected back at you by everyone around you?

How you can save money and own beautiful clothes

My favorite discovery in the last few years has been consignment clothing stores and thrift stores. I never shopped for used clothing before. I used to donate my gently worn clothes to charities, but it never occurred to me to shop there. Well, that has changed. I discovered a world of hidden gems. Imagine how many women buy clothes they never wear. One woman’s mistake is another woman’s treasure. It’s environmentally friendly, too. All those compliments I’m getting these days? Recycled clothing!

How do you find your local consignment and thrift stores? Ask friends or google consignment and thrift stores in your area. Here’s a bonus: consignment and thrift stores are not based on fashion designers’ seasonal whims of colors and styles. You can find YOUR colors and styles almost any time of the year.

You, too, can look like a million bucks!

    I understand you

I understand the woman who is older and can’t afford to retire, yet she doesn’t want to work for a company anymore (and they may not want her either). She doesn’t know what she’s passionate about because she’s stuffed those dreams so far down that she can’t remember. She needs help re-discovering her passion and beauty.  I understand her pain, her self-doubt, and I have a solution.

I help women of all ages and sizes discover their passion and express who they are with their appearance. Here’s an exercise I have my clients do. I tell them “Close your eyes and imagine yourself as a work of art — visualize the lines of your body, the shadows, textures and colors that define your form. See the beauty of your body as an artist would, without any judgment. Now picture your body draped with beautiful fabric accentuating your curves.” After this exercise I teach my clients how to choose clothes that complement their coloring, body shape, and personality to create a beautiful artistic image. It’s amazing how transformational this is!
