If you looked at a fashion magazine over the summer, you saw the Fall 2016 Fashion Runway Previews. Did you look at the models with a sneer and say to yourself, “I’d never be caught DEAD in THAT?” Yah, I know, only the rich and famous actually wear the runway fashions. We REAL women wear a tone-downed version of the over-the-top designs. Happily…

For me personally, as a COPPER, I get excited about fall fashions because those are MY colors. The burnt oranges, mustard yellows, brick reds, olive greens, and deep teals. But I’m actually excited about this fall’s color palette because there seems to be something for everyone. Every color palette is represented in fall color swatches chosen by the Pantone Color Institute. The season’s color trends are anchored by earthy tones like Warm Taupe and Dusty Cedar with pops of vibrant colors like Spicy Mustard and Bodacious. According to Leatrice Eiseman, executive director of the Pantone Color Institute:

“Transcending gender, these unexpectedly vivacious colors in our Fall 2016 palette act as playful but structured departures from your more typical fall shades. Blue skies represent constancy as they are always above us. Grays give a feeling of stability, Red tones invite confidence and warmth, while the hot Pinkish Purples and Spicy Mustard Yellows suggest a touch of the exotic.”

If you fall in love with one of these new, trendy colors and desperately want to wear it, but sadly, the color makes your skin look pale and drawn, here’s what I recommend: if one of these new colors isn’t in your color palette, but you LOVE it, just wear it below your waist or wear it as an accessory such as a handbag or shoes. Let’s say I’m in love with Bodacious, but the vibrant violet color makes my skin look pale and dull (which it does…), I can wear this pair of gorgeous Bodacious-colored wide-legged pants (pictured below) and wear a top in my color. I’d go with one of my COPPER neutrals, such as a sweater or blouse in this year’s Warm Taupe, or a dark mahogany brown jacket with leather trim.
