What I’ve seen and heard from women lately is that they are starting to get a little tired of wearing pants and a top…tunic and leggings…tee shirt and jeans… Don’t get me wrong! We still LOVE our jeans, and in the winter there’s nothing more comfy (and warm!) than cute athleisure sweatpants with an oversized cable knit sweater. But, I’m starting to get more questions about wearing dresses. That’s right. Dresses, even for casual holiday events. I’ve said this for years — a dress is easier and more comfortable than putting together an outfit of pants and a shirt. There’s nothing to coordinate with a dress and you can still add tights and boots underneath the dress for warmth. So are you sold on dresses yet?
You can wear a dress! You can be happy in a dress, especially a holiday dress that has all your favorite things in it: plaid; red; three-quarter sleeves so you can still decorate your wrists with bangles; and a pretty neck detail. Dresses that have an A-line silhouette, so your waist feels respected just as it is. There’s no worry about getting the pant rise or waistband right. It’s great when you can wear a dress that feels like it was made for you.
You don’t have to wear your mother’s shirtwaist dress to accentuate your waist in a dress. There are beautifully draped A-line dresses that gently hug your curves without feeling constrictive. A great dress is all about getting the silhouette right.
I believe your clothes have to feel great on your body and make you feel like a million bucks. Just because some of us have lost our waistlines does not mean we have lost our sense of style, right?
Stay with me now. Pockets. What if your dresses could provide pockets? Would that seal the deal?
For the holidays you can add sparkle and sheen in your handbag, jewelry, and shoes. Add sparkly textured hose, or go all PUNK and wear faux leather leggings and boots with a dress!
I just discovered these dresses (above and below) from an online store called “Artful Home,” that you could wear to a casual neighborhood holiday party, or by adding sparkle and shine, to a dressy holiday event.

I love the look of the artful home dresses. They look comfy and trendy. But when I try to picture myself in them, I think about a round potato sack. I am 5’2″ and have always carried extra weight in my stomach area and worked at trying to hide my “pouch” ever since I had an emergency c-section … over 30 years ago.. Linda, can you give an example of this same look with a slightly more form fitting dress (less fabric) ?? made for an extra large petite? xoxoxox

Dresses make me feel feminine. Yes to pockets.
Pictures here make dresses be warm as in our country you want to dress warm in winter.
